Building on the modularity of the 84-mm calibre system applied to both the AT4 and Carl-Gustaf weapons, the new AT4 capabilities allow a soldier to engage and defeat more types of enemy targets, over longer distances and in more complex environments.
“Our new capabilities have been developed as a direct response to our customers’ needs and we are very pleased to now show these new capabilities to the world market. These enhanced variants deliver extended range (ER) performance and improved high explosive (HE) effects which enable any soldier to defeat more targets with greater flexibility and in many more scenarios”, says Görgen Johansson, head of Saab business area Dynamics.
The AT4CS ER takes the well-proven anti-armour capability of the AT4CS (Confined Space) and extends its effective range to 600 m. The AT4CS HE will provide the soldier with a direct-fire support capability capable of engaging enemy troops in air-burst or impact mode out to a distance
of 1,000 m.
“The new members of our AT4 family further expand the great versatility of the weapon and emphasize its position as the leading disposable shoulder-launched support weapon on the market,” says Lars-Örjan Hovbrandt, who you can also meet at Saab stand during DSEI.
The new capabilities were first shown at the 2014 Eurosatory in Paris and recently, these important capabilities made their Latin America debut at the 2015 LAAD.
Chosen by the French Army
The latest AT4 versions were launched into production by a December 2014 order from the French Ministry of Defence procurement branch, the DGA (Direction Générale de l'Armement). The enhanced AT4 was selected, after a competitive evaluation, to serve as the Roquette Nouvelle Generation (Roquette NG) next-generation shoulder-launched weapon system for the French armed force.
“The procurement from the French Army is the single most important programme on the global market in the disposable shoulder-launched product segment”, says Görgen Johansson, Head of Saab’s business area Dynamics. “The French requirements are comprehensive and exacting, and we are proud that DGA has chosen us for this important contract.
Present in more than 15 countries worldwide, the AT4 system is fully combat-proven and provides the extended range required for mission success, along with night and confined space launch capabilities.
